After weeks of preening and outfit preparation, racegoers were more than ready to let their hair down as soon as they hit Aintree today.
Champagne, wine and beer flowed from the early morning, with some swigging bubbles direct from the bottle, so it was no wonder that some people were feeling a little the worse for wear and in need of a siesta as Ladies Day wore on.
While revellers had turned out in their best outfits for Ladies Day, glamour was quickly forgotten about as many kicked off their shoes and sat on the ground as weariness got the better of them.
One woman lay flat on the ground with her eyes closed, looking as if she was taking 40 winks while the action swirled around her.
Others ended up exposing a little more than they bargained for as thigh-skimming dresses rode up to reveal their underwear as they flailed about, trying to put their shoes back on.
Thousands of glamorous revellers flocked to the Merseyside course, dressed to the nines, in the hope of winning the much-coveted style award on Ladies Day.
But it was 64-year-old Faith Amond, from County Carlow, Ireland, who beat off thousands of stylish hopefuls to claim the Style Award, winning prizes including a £35,000 Range Rover Evoque and £1,000 of shopping vouchers.

A team of judges, including hockey player Sam Quek, Liverpool fashion designers Philip and Tony Armstrong and soprano Laura Wright pored over thousands of entries to pick out the most stylishly clad lady of the day.
Hopefuls entered by posing for a photo at one of the style award frames and uploading their snap online and it was no doubt a tough decision.
But in the end they settled on the very chic Faith Almond, 64, who saw off competition from skimpily dressed 20-somethings.
Among the judges for the award was Olympic gold medallist Sam Quek, who was wearing a white dress with black panels by Liverpool designer Philip Armstrong.

The Aintree Ladies Day style crown has been claimed by a 64-year-old racegoer.
Faith Amond, from County Carlow, Ireland, beat off thousands of stylish hopefuls to claim the Style Award, winning prizes including a £35,000 Range Rover Evoque and £1,000 of shopping vouchers.
The mother-of-three wore a red and pink outfit with a striking red hat and accessorised with Chanel pearls and a red handbag and gloves.
She said: 'I still can't believe I've won. It's such an honour.'

Mrs Amond said she had picked the outfit from clothes she already owned, but had bought flowers from the garden centre to add to her hat.
She said she had been coming to the race meeting for the past 15 years.
She said: 'Twelve years ago, I had breast cancer and I was on chemotherapy for a year and I came here, wig and all, that year.
'Obviously, I'd lost my hair so I managed to get the wig and get the hat and all the rest and managed to get here because at the time what I was going through, it wasn't easy, but I thought I'm going to go to Aintree. So I didn't even miss it that year.'

The Team GB hockey player and I'm A Celebrity contestant said the standard of entries had been 'really, really fantastic'.
She said: 'Credit to the ladies out there who really dressed to their personalities and as individual.
'It's made it absolutely awesome and everyone's looking fabulous as well.'
Thousands turned out for the second day of the racing festival, which traditionally sees female racegoers compete in the glamour stakes.

Fashion designer Tony Armstrong, who helped to judge the style contest, said: 'We've seen pink in every shade from blush pink to hot pink, high-low hemlines and lots of off the shoulder looks.
'On the whole, amazing, amazing style today. Really, really well-dressed ladies.'
